Words that Bug Me
The ‘Bug Me’ concept took form with ‘Words that Bug Me’ - the first collection. For this series I chose words that shake my inner being. Words so visceral they seem to yell, even when they’re not being spoken. I began with “Cunt”. The very act of typing the word spikes my senses. My interest in the words is not the content or definition but rather the emotion it evokes which happens consistently & urgently. The fascinating Power of a word. I continue this exploration with similar reaction to the following words:
Nigger.
Fag.
And my final word - for now - Perfect.
The Words are illustrated as works of Art & individually crafted to create a quality Statement Handbag. I’ve used my favorite methods of expression - spraypaint & embroidery to create the background designs & lettering motifs. Each bag conveys a Word that Bugs Me.
Bugs that Bug Me
In the second series I focused on finding the beauty in creatures that fill me with the creepies and crawlies. There are Flies on a screen, Roaches on Lace and a Praying Mantis in a golden field. The Bugs are constructed, segmented in their true form from many different materials & techniques. No two are alike.
Totes Special
This series isn’t driven by a theme. The inspiration could be a color, a texture, an attempted capture of a feeling. As such, these handbags are consistently inconsistent but noteworthy nonetheless.
